The IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate experts) is an organization that was set up in 1988 by the World Meteorological Organisation and the Environment Programme of the United Nations. Any member of one of these organizations (which are organizations of countries) can be a member of the IPCC and the English acronym for this organization is IPCC (International Panel on Climate Change).

The role of the IPCC is "to assess the scientific, technical and socio-economic concerns that the risk of climate change caused by human beings." It is a body where scientists and experts around the world, appointed by the countries that join, expertisent and comment on all the research that takes place on the risk of climate change caused by human activity.

This is not a research laboratory, but an organization where we expertise of the research carried out in research laboratories in the world entier.C That is an important point because it means that every researcher working on this topic, even someone who attempts to challenge man's influence on climate, may request that its work should be assessed by the IPCC.

But these experts (2,000) are researchers themselves known. The subjects covered are not as science "harsh" (physics, chemistry ...) However, there are also economists, sociologists ...

The IPCC publishes regular reports very detailed and more specific documentation on specific items. The first major report of 1990, a second report was submitted in 1995 and another in 2001.

The IPCC is divided into 3 groups which expertisent respectively:
• What is said in science on the functioning of the climate and the assessment of climate change.
• What is said about the vulnerability of the biosphere and our socio-economic system cope with the risks of climate change.
• What is said on emission scenarios greenhouse gases and how to reduce our emissions.

The documents produced by the IPCC serve as a reference in the framework of international negotiations on greenhouse gases. The IPCC has a website where are offered summaries of the various reports it produces, which are public.
