According to the barometer of the government's communication FIFG on "French and the environment" in July 2006, 57% of the French said they had ever heard of sustainable development and, among them, 41% said they were well informed about the topic. The increase in awareness of this concept in French is remarkable because they were only 23% in June 2002 to have heard of sustainable development.
Decided by the prime minister at the seminar on sustainable development of Nov. 28, 2002, the Week on Sustainable Development (SDS) is a major appointment of the Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development.
It helps to involve citizens in major environmental themes of sustainable development (climate change, biodiversity, waste ...), but also to economic and social components of the (eco-investment, fair trade, vocational ...).
Having become an essential meeting and regular like the European Mobility Week, which takes place every year from 16 to 22 September, the Sustainable Development Week will now be held each year from 1 to 7 April.
In 2006, the 4th edition of the Week on Sustainable Development, held from May 29 to June 4, was attended by nearly 1,400 shares held throughout the territory, involving thousands of actors (wafer balance the edition 2006)
